ARTIST INTERVIEW: MARINA

Hey Marina, super nice to have the chance to chat with you again! First and foremost what got you into music?

I've loved singing since I was a little girl. I used to perform in choirs and talent shows in school. Music and performing has always meant the world to me. I started writing music in high school, and continued throughout the last decade.

Can you describe a live show that inspired you?

I can! Yes! Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" tour. I LOVED that concert. It was so much fun!! It made me realize it's not only about the music, it's about the world that your music brings people into.

Have you heard Olivia Rodrigo's "Sour" or Hole's magnum opus: "Live Through This"?

I've heard "Sour," but not "Live Through This." I'll have to check it out.

Do you appreciate the fantastic world of indie music?

I do! I'm a part of it, so I'd say definitely yes.

Which pop anthem fits you the most?

"Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry.

Which contemporary records would you recommend me?

There's an indie pop duo that I really love called "YVR." They have some great songs. I'd check out "How Have You Been?" and "Bad At Goodbyes."

Who is your favorite female singer?

Katy Perry. Are you noticing a pattern? Lol.

Do you listen to classical music in your spare time?

I do not. Though my dad used to play classical music in the house a lot when I was younger.

Why people should listen to your new release: "Vindictive Bitch"?

Almost every person I know, especially women, have been involved in some sort of narcissistic relationship. This song is about getting revenge on that narcissist and calling them out on their bad behavior. It's empowering, and I believe a lot of women will relate to it.

Do agree with the Pigeon?

Um, I guess it depends on what? I agree that pigeons are cool, but I like owls more, lol.

Review

In "Vindictive Bitch" there isn't a single night when she isn't on your mind and you have no clue what you did wrong in the broken relationship. Vindictive Bitch relies on snappy organic percussion and Marina's exceptional vocals to generate a very accomplished pop banger. This pop banger explodes around the 40-second mark and begins to take on much more sinister properties in which Marina appears to be completely obsessed with her heartbreak. The hook again explodes with nerves and you want to hear it go out. It's incredible how Marina transitions from an abrasive and terrifying performance (as terrifying as a prom queen smudged by her own make-up) to a soft performance full of soul and sensuality. Guess what, don't miss this pop anthem!

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
