ARTIST INTERVIEW: D.O.M OF DND

Interview

Cru cru D.O.M OF DND , what first got you into music?

I got into music, rap in particular, after I was watching a YouTube Poop of Eminem's song "Not Afraid," and my friend showed me the actual song. From there, I went on and spiralled down the rabbit hole, binging every single rap song out there, leading me to where I am now.

What does "D.O.M. of Dnd" stands for?

There are two parts of my rapper name, here: "D.O.M" is an acronym for my actual name, where as the "DnD," component isn't quite clear to me. It was initially supposed to be the name of a duo group I was supposed to do with a friend of mine, before we had a falling out. Now, I'm not quite sure what this part of my name stands for.

What would you do if you had a time machine?

If I had a time machine, I would try and stop the pandemic happening, because although that point in time helped me hone in on my skills for rapping, it also caused me a lot of the problems I'm currently facing, with regards to staying chronically online and overthinking.

Have you ever played D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)?

I've played D&D twice, just have had a hard time finding free time, as well as coordinating a time that would work best with my friends.

Can you give us your top 3 hip - hop records of all time?

1: Superstar - Lupe Fiasco

2: Fall - Eminem

3: Boom - Royce da 5'9"

What's the best decade for hip - hop and why?

I'd say that the best decade that helped move the genre forward was the 2000s, as that's when we began seeing a polished version of rap that helped it become more digestible, and thus, more accessible to a wider audience.

What rapper inspired you the most?

There's a myriad of artists that have helped inspire me and what I do, but the primary one is Eminem. All of his old and new shit that he's put out has a special spot for me because of his versatility and humor he inserts into his work.

Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it?

Although I haven't performed in open mics or tours per se, my first time rapping in front of a bunch of people was in a local Cypher my city was hosting. I was fidgety throughout the whole thing, but when I was able to rap for them and they wound up going ape shit for my verse, I felt a lot more at ease because I felt like I garnered acceptance from like-minded people.

What are you most proud of?

What I'm most proud of is getting shoutouts from Strange Music affiliate Rittz when I was showing him one of my songs during a listening session he was hosting. I'm so grateful to have his critiques in the back of my brain as well as his compliments about my wordplay and voice, both things that I've gotten shit for from people in earlier stages of my career.

Do you agree with the Pigeon?

I'm not quite sure how to answer this, because I don't know what I'm agreeing or disagreeing with Pigeon on.

Review

In "World D.O.Mination II", D.O.M. goes to the extreme and displays all his talent and clever bars side by side with some of the legends of the ever-expanding world of hip-hop. In this case, the past and present of hip-hop are in Conway The Machine (GRISELDA), Inspectah Deck (Wu- Tang Clan), Judakiss and many other features that always have something new to add to this absolutely epic record that is more like an event, since it has so many guests. But without a shadow of a doubt, the brightest star are the flows of D.O.M. of Dnd and his killer inflections inspired by peak Eminem combined with a constantly audacious and experimental turntablism. It would be a crime not to mention how fabulous the production on this project is, especially on the clash of interests with Conway The Machine and the minimalist trip with Inspectah Deck!!!
