Interview with Dream Bodies

What inspired you to combine DAW production with AI processing for “Midnight Fire”?

I work alone, so I don’t think in terms of concepts or trends. DAW is simply where I build and control the structure. AI enters the process when things start to feel too predictable — or when I realize I’m arguing with my own habits again.

How did using AI influence the arrangement and emotional tone of the track?

AI didn’t create the emotion. It exposed tension that was already present. When something unexpected appears, I either smooth it out or accept it. I usually accept it.

Can you describe the process of transforming raw riffs into the final composition?

The riffs were intentionally minimal. I let them be stretched, distorted, and reshaped, then reduced everything back down. Most of the work is removing things I thought were a great idea five minutes earlier.

What role do lyrics play in your creative process for “Midnight Fire”?

Lyrics are the foundation. Without them there’s no emotional center, and without that there’s no music. Everything else — riffs, textures, arrangements — exists to serve what the words are carrying.

What themes or emotions are you exploring in the lyrics of “Midnight Fire”?

The song deals with desire and awareness — knowing the cost of a choice and stepping forward anyway. There’s no innocence involved, just honesty.

How do you balance human emotion with technological innovation in your music?

Emotion comes first. Technology only stays if it serves that. If something sounds clever but empty, it’s gone — no matter how proud the algorithm might be.

Were there any challenges in integrating AI while maintaining your artistic vision?

Restraint. AI offers too many possibilities too quickly. It also tends to trigger strong reactions — sometimes stronger than the music itself. Some of that inevitably lands on me. I don’t talk about it too much, partly because it can distract people from actually listening, which is impressive in its own way.

How does “Midnight Fire” reflect your broader approach to music production and experimentation?

It reflects a solitary, fully authored process. Experimentation happens in the method, not in the message. The track has to stand on its own, without a manual.

What kind of listening experience do you hope audiences take away from this track?

I hope it lingers. Something unresolved that stays with you — ideally longer than the explanations.

How has your environment in Warsaw influenced the sound and style of wsemsz?

I don’t live in Warsaw itself, but in a tiny village nearby, surrounded by forests. It’s quiet, sometimes calming, sometimes overwhelming. Trees are great listeners, but terrible collaborators.

Do you see AI as a collaborator or a tool in your creative process?

AI is a tool. A powerful one, occasionally stubborn. Meaning still comes from human decisions — even when the machine strongly disagrees.
