J Terrell - Over The Moon
“Over the Moon” captures the feeling of love that lingers even at a distance, blending atmospheric production with introspective lyrics that reminds us that love is not always about closeness—but about what’s understood and felt in the heart, like looking up at the stars and knowing it’s still there.
Interview with J Terrell

(•)> Over the Moon captures love from a distance. What inspired the theme of long-distance connection in this track?
I have traveled a lot in my current daytime career in management. It’s generated a great deal of reflection in my understanding that love is wherever you are. That if it feels far it isn’t.
(•)> How does Over the Moon reflect your growth since your debut album Cowboy Tango?
This song was a deep dive into not only my struggles in relating to those I love but also goes deeper to convey romance and understanding. While cowboy tango was a lot of scenery there’s a lot of slow sincere steps beyond adventure.
(•)> Your sound blends country, soul, and introspection. How do you balance these genres in your songwriting?
Because all music tells a story, blending styles and energies is a gift. They all come from the same tree, so tracing those similarities back to the roots to blend them is just a no brainer.
(•)> Atmospheric production is central to Over the Moon. How did you approach crafting the sonic landscape for this song?
Building the vocal arrangement was really fun in generating the foundation and backgrounds and lighter tones was something that felt best to compliment the instruments.
(•)> Following singles like Juice and Punch, how does this track fit into the story you’re telling about your musical journey?
There was a lot of intentional writing in Juice and Punch to convey a fun message, but this single lifts up the listener in a different way. It gives reassurance.

(•)> What role does Dallas, Texas, play in shaping your music and artistic identity?
Dallas Texas is a really big music scape with a lot of rich understanding of different music styles. It has helped make my tastes more robust.
(•)> Distance and emotion are key themes in your work. How do you convey intimacy without physical closeness in your lyrics?
I am very intentional in writing the lyrics and also with delivering. But lighter layers help as well. Delivering certain words with key focuses.
(•)> Your music often explores personal reflection. How much of Over the Moon comes from your own experiences versus storytelling?
It comes 100% from my own experience in navigating communication, love and understanding and upholds my belief that love never leaves you.
(•)> How do you want listeners to feel when they hear Over the Moon for the first time?
I want listeners to feel encouraged, feel love, feel romance even. It’s supposed to feel like a hug, platonic or romantic. It’s supposed to feel like slow dancing. It should feel like if you miss someone it's for them if you have someone it's for them.
(•)> Looking forward, how do you plan to evolve your sound in upcoming singles or albums?
I am challenging myself a lot more now to be more earnest in my sound, delivery and message even my lighthearted ones
