1. Cru cru, what first got you into music?
I first got into music as a child singing solos in church, all-county chorus and writing lyrics in the form of poetry. I got into production, mixing and engineering in college starting with electronic loops and moving onto recording lo-fi sounds.
2. What would you do if you had a time machine?
If I had a time machine I would go back to the days of Jesus and watch him preach the sermon on the mount. It’s a message I try to live each day by.
3. What’s your favorite album of all time?
My favorite album of all-time is ‘Feels’ by Animal Collective. The opener “Did You See the Words” is one of the greatest opening tracks ever and the sound of the first 45 seconds or so with the children laughing, the gorgeous piano and most notably the synth, is unparalleled. Tracks 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 are the greatest run of 5 songs on any album ever. The lyrics of “The Purple Bottle” so are creative and beautiful. “Bees” has some of the most incredible production I’ve ever heard on a song with the angelic strumming. “Banshee Beat” is my favorite song on my favorite album since I believe it has the greatest production value of any song in the last 50 years. The background noises and mood it puts you in are ethereal. “Daffy Duck” creates an emotional response from me and the lyrics are creative and expressive. “Loch Raven” is a great ambient piece of music that finishes off the perfect 5 track run extraordinarily.
4. Will you tell us something embarassing about you?
Something embarrassing at the time but not so much anymore is I couldn’t afford any musical equipment when I was starting so I used my parents digital camera to record vocals and borrowed laptops, desktops, and synths from my friends.
5. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
To continue to grow and develop as an artist I have been releasing 2 albums a year since 2020. So I have released 8 albums in the last 4 years and 11 albums since my debut album in 2015. Doing this keeps me real busy and allows for me to grow musically and be as creative as possible. It also creates a discography that will stand the test of time, that I can look back on in the future and be proud of.
6. Are you a music fan?
Am I a music fan? Yes, I am a big fan of music! I ran a record label for a few years back in 2011-2013 called Housewarming Records where I released 39 albums from artists and bands all over the world. I also currently run Premier Source Music which is a music website dedicated to music rankings, reviews and interviews with some of my favorite indie musicians.
7. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
My hobbies and interests outside of music include but are not limited to maintaining a relationship with Jesus, creating collage art, traveling with my wife, spending time next to the ocean. I also like to lift weights, ride bikes, play basketball and walk for exercise.
8. What’s movie do you love the most?
My favorite film is ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and has been since it came out in 2004. I love the screenwriting, acting, directing and of course, the beautiful soundtrack.
