ARTIST INTERVIEW: JOSUÉ FERNÁNDEZ

1. Cru cru, what first got you into music?

Well, the passion for music as an artistic expression comes from a very young age. I haven't had any artistic background at home but it's true that my parents (especially my mother) occasionally listened to very different music, always good references. At the age of 11-12 I was already very capable of perceiving and letting myself be delighted by certain music and it was the attachment to figures like 'Michael Jackson' or some street styles such as beatbox within hip hop, which allowed me getting deep into this vital vision

2. What would you do if you had a time machine?

I would say nothing. As a person, including the artist, I think that human being who lives consciously doesn't leave anything in the past nor eagers to get ahead of events. We can enjoy the present the way we accept and study our past to create the most sensible future. I don't have nothing in past but memories and I don't wish more than enjoying the journey of life

3. What’s your favorite album of all time?

It's very difficult for me to answer this question because I do not like to classify or consider that some works have more relevance than others. Even so, I will mention the album 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' by Pink Floyd because it's the type of piece that I never refuse to listen to again and because it has always marked me in a certainly significant way.

4. Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?

It's been many years since something especially embarrassing happened to me but there's something I don't tell hardly anyone: when I was a child I developed a phobia of ants (although now it doesn't mean anything). When I was about 7-8 years old, I was playing quietly in a family field throwing stones into a rainwater canister and without realizing it, I was stepping on the exit of an anthill. You can imagine that the ants began to react by attacking me and by the time I realized it, the ants were all over my body. I started screaming when I felt all the little bites and my parents quickly undressed me, pouring water on me and the clothes taking advantage of the fact that they were watering the area. From that moment and for many years, every time I saw an ant I would leave that place (always observing the places carefully) and if I suddenly felt something on my body I would panic.

5. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I don't have big plans, always taking it slowly and definitely understanding music as I currently understand it: as a mere expression, always seeking maximum sincerity with what I want to express. A constant of evolution that I always maintain it's the study, continuing to learn about production and musical theory to express a concept in the most accurate way possible.

6. Are you a music fan?

Definitely, you can't be an issuer of ideas if you don't receive ideas. I am an enthusiast, a music lover.

7. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Yes, I'm a passionate person per se. I practice sports 6 days a week, I have great interest in technical books about certain fields and I deliberately consider myself a film buff. I could also mention that I occasionally practice card magic and that in some free time, I play retro videogames.

8. What’s movie do you love the most?

In the cinema I have it more clear (although I will not mention just one). Some sagas have marked my childhood and adolescence in the foreground: Terminator, Fast & Furious and Blade.

9. Who came first? The Pigeon or the egg?

I like to think through the scientific method. The pigeon, like most beings, comes from much less developed species and these, in turn, are born from eggs.

10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?

The Pigeon rules.

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
