Two Sides of the Same Wound! Sons of Latona tighten their indie-rock instinct into a more emotional and more combustible single

“Both Sides” arrives as the Halifax quartet’s 2025 one-track release, and it feels like the sound of a band learning how to scale intimacy into something bigger

I hear Sons of Latona as a band working in a classic alt-rock lane. Formed by schoolmates and drawing inspiration from metal through to indie, “Both Sides” displays as an old idea that was rebuilt from intimate chords into a powerful and emotional chorus.

That arc is what interests me. For me, the single’s appeal is the lift in the chorus and the tension that gets it there. The sense of a song starting close to the chest before opening into a broader, cathartic release. Sons of Latona seem to understand that a strong hook hits harder when the arrangement earns it, and that emotional clarity is showcased strongly here. On “Both Sides,” Sons of Latona sound like a band trying to land the feeling cleanly gibing the song its weight.
