For fans of Type O Negative, Bauhaus, Alice in Chains, Danzig, and the 69 Eyes, Wind Before the Storm is an absolute must-hear. Samuel's minimalist approach to production lets the track's melancholic undertones shine through, creating a hauntingly beautiful experience in Goth Rock. But there’s more beneath the surface: heavy riffs and a masterful drumming performance add a visceral intensity that pulls listeners into the track’s emotional depths.

The percussion deserves a special mention. The dynamic drumming elevates the track, seamlessly balancing power and precision, enhancing the overall atmosphere while grounding the soaring guitar riffs. Samuel’s artistry reflects his diverse influences, including a notable nod to the iconic Metallica, whose heavy and melodic style resonates throughout the composition. This intersection of melody and power is a hallmark of Samuel's sound, making Wind Before the Storm a standout in his discography.

Interview with Samuel Yuri

Samuel Yuri

(•)> What inspired the creation of “Wind Before the Storm,” and what emotions or ideas were you hoping to capture in this song?

I wanted to write a song about a Storm and I wanted to describe how it feels to be merging with the storm while creating music.

(•)> Your sound has been described as a mix of Grunge, Classic Rock, Lo-Fi, and Goth Rock. How do you approach blending such distinct genres while keeping your music cohesive?

I just felt the inspiration and I let it flow throw me. These are mostly the types of genres that I also listen.

(•)> “Wind Before the Storm” feels both atmospheric and grounded. How did you achieve that balance in production and performance?

I wrote about being grounded and being transported to a higher plane of creation also.

(•)> You’ve built an impressive catalog that includes instrumental and vocal tracks. How do you decide when a piece should have lyrics and when it should remain instrumental?

A When I feel that a music needs a lyric of mine, I write the lyrics. And when I feel that I like just the instrumental, I just play the instrumentals.

(•)> Your debut album Epic Scales introduced listeners to your wide range of influences, from rock to classical and even Arabic motifs. How has your sound evolved since then?

I wrote songs influenced by other languages, like in "Versions of the Sun" that I wrote my song "The Sun" in German and in French to connect with these audiences. And I've created also "Wolves" and "Green Fields" that is about to be released now.

(•)> You record and produce much of your work independently. What does that creative freedom mean to you as a composer and performer?

I like the feeling of writing and singing what I want, it is natural to me.
