Interview with Rupert Träxler

How did you decide to merge Jungle grooves with Heavy Rock in “Atmospheres”?

The idea came to me because the Ghosthack samples were very inspiring and simply fun to work with. New ideas keep coming all the time, and once you start, it’s hard to stop working on it. You prepare different layers, modify samples yourself, and develop a new sense of dynamics – it’s fantastic. Especially because it also gives you the opportunity to create entirely new keyboard sounds. But that still wasn’t enough for me, and the rock guitar turned out to be the perfect addition to the whole concept. Strong rhythm combined with jungle grooves just works really well – I love it. And of course, the highlight is the guitar solo 😊

Can you walk us through how AI influenced the vocals or instrumentation on this track?

In my previous songs, I only used AI for the vocals, so I could sound different and generate various vocal colors from my own voice. With Atmospheres, there is no AI at all!

Which moment in the song best captures the cinematic feeling you aimed for?

That’s hard to say, because I feel the connection to the cinematic element is present right from the beginning.

How do you balance technical precision with emotional depth in your compositions?

In my opinion, it’s all part of a process. First, the song has to come into existence at all. Gradually, it grows and expands, and it’s easy to overload it at some point. That’s when patience is required – listening calmly and carefully, then deciding whether everything feels right or if something more is needed.

Technical precision is still essential, though, to give the song – whether instrumental or with vocals – the proper polish.

When you were producing this track in your home studio, what was the most unexpected creative breakthrough?

Finishing it, haha!

But seriously, there’s a very special moment when the electric guitar really kicks in for the first time. That moves me every single time!

Do you see “Atmospheres” as part of a larger narrative or concept for the year’s releases?

Atmospheres was planned as the conclusion of my three releases for 2025. After Darkness and The Journey, it just felt right – completely different tunes again. From heavy metal to indie rock to jungle D&B with heavy guitars, things really get going…

Which artists or albums most inspired the sonic direction of this track?

There wasn’t anyone specific.

How do you approach genre-bending without losing a sense of cohesion in your music?

I honestly don’t think about it too much, because everything tends to evolve very naturally. And since the guitar is always part of everything I do, the circle closes with the rock guitar.

If you could perform “Atmospheres” live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

At a big, powerful event where people can really dance their hearts out.

With a great light show on top of that – that would be perfect. Nova Rock or Ars Electronica would definitely be high on my list.

What feeling or reaction do you hope listeners walk away with after hearing the track?

Satisfaction – and a longing for more!
