Interview with RISE

(º)> What inspired Lost For Words?

This was inspired by the experience of Steve Kinley, the band’s original singer and bass player.

(º)> How do you balance high energy with melodic hooks?

Good question, it does take thought to make sure melody is not lost at the expense of energy…we do work on the arrangements quite a bit to keep the balance.

(º)> Which influences shaped this track most?

This is pop-rock…with a heavy dose of 80s influence, such a Journey, Thin Lizzy (for the guitar work), Asia, etc

(º)> How do the synths and guitars interact in your arrangements?

We work on this point for every song, that is, the “Rise” sound after all. We try to get as close to 50/50 as we can between guitars and synths

(º)> What makes your vocal harmonies stand out?

They are heavily layered….I think 6 harmony parts at one point in the song; we then blend them down slightly in the mix

(º)> How do you approach writing collectively as a four-piece?

I tend to start the process, then send the initial idea to the band, we then jam the ideas and arrangements

(º)> Which part of Lost For Words is your favorite and why?

I think the pre-chorus with the open high hats is my favorite part of the song

(º)> How do you translate this energy to live performances?

Again, this is difficult, ours is a big, complex sound, so we do use some sequencers to support the song from the synths, and we do use guest musicians

(º)> What challenges do you face blending melodic and progressive elements?

No real issue for us, we love prog elements and odd time signatures, and we are heavily inspired by bands such as Rush, Genesis, Yes, and Asia.

(º)> What’s next for RISE after this single?

We have three more tracks already recorded for release over the coming months, and we are back in the studio in January 2026.
