Oryah - Fall Back

"I am a recording artist from the East Coast of the US. I spent the first few years of my music journey making beats, but eventually started rapping during the pandemic under my first name."

"I've always loved music growing up and realized it was my passion after playing Guitar Hero heavily as a child. Then, my love for Rock/Metal transitioned into Hip-Hop/R&B during my early teenage years."

"My style is influenced by artists like Lil Wayne, Odd Future, Lucki, Isaiah Rashad, and Kendrick. However, I make an effort to keep my sound as unique and authentic as my own name is. The ultimate goal I have is to impact the world sonically and build a loyal audience. I'm always aiming to make relatable music that connects with my listeners."

Fall Back is your third single of the year. What makes this release stand out compared to your earlier ones?

I believe it stands out because it’s intentionally made to be catchy. Most times I don’t prioritize that when I write, but I knew the chorus was a hit then moment I wrote it down.

You mentioned writing the song years ago. What was it like revisiting older lyrics and giving them new life through composition?

It’s always a beautiful experience! I do that a lot with most of my songs, and “Fall Back” itself probably went through 5+ versions until I landed here. I always try to find that right composition that fits the lyrics without sounding too forced or rigged

How did you know you had finally found the “perfect composition” to match the lyrics?

This track was funny because there was a version I made prior to this one that I thought was the perfect match. Might even release that one eventually too, but then I discovered this new instrumental from Shushuboi at the time. Despite being ready to release the previous version, the lyrics just fit too perfectly over the current instrumental & I just had to rerecord the entire track with engineer Nate Kobain.

The song explores the idea of stepping back to move forward, was there a personal experience that inspired this theme?

There were a couple of different moments in life that culminated into the lyrics. I tried my best to encapsulate a bunch of different feelings at once so that it could be relatable for most listeners.

How do you hope listeners will connect with Fall Back on an emotional level?

I hope the song can either be their source of happiness/hope about overcoming a tough situation in life. But if you can direct relate to the lyrics now or are going through something, then I hope for “Fall Back” to be the song that comforts you. Overall though, as long as the song made you feel something then I am satisfied.

What challenges did you face while shaping this song into its final version?

Honesty just trying my best to get the singing as good as possible. I’ve always considered myself more of a rapper first, but sometimes I like to dabble into melodies. In the future I want to keep developing my vocals & get better at singing. I’m happy the song ended up turning out great because it took a lot out of me vocally haha

If you could describe the sound and mood of Fall Back in three words, what would they be?

Somber, Moody & Catchy

Do you see this single as part of a larger story or project (like an EP or album), or is it meant to stand on its own?

That’s great question actually, as I’ve been trying to ask myself the same thing. I think I initially just wanted it to stand alone, but the success & reception has me thinking bigger in scope. But regardless, I do plan hopefully at least releasing the official music video for the track before the year ends!

How has your approach to songwriting evolved since you first wrote Fall Back?

Oh man it’s definitely just changed A LOT. In the past, I used to feel so pressured into finishing a song the moment I start it right away. Nowadays, I truly try to force any writing at all. Sometimes my sessions will consist of me writing 10+ songs. And sometimes I only get a couple lines, but am still satisfied because I didn’t force any bad lyrics.

Looking ahead, how does Fall Back set the tone for the music you plan to release in the future?

My fans know that I try to stay unpredictable as I explore many different styles, but after Fall Back I definitely want to continue incorporating my ear for melody into even more of my music moving forward. I appreciate all the love & reception on the song so far! Ton of stuff planned for the future.
