One Flew Over - Eyes Open
Irish duo One Flew Over are excited to share their 7th single - ‘Eyes Open’ — a genre-blending anthem that fuses indie-rock, Baroque pop, and soul. Powered by Irene Ní Chuinn’s commanding vocal, the track channels the sonic memory of Florence + The Machine and Annie Lennox, with echoes of Radiohead and the raw spirit of Hozier.
Lyrically Eyes Open paints a portrait of a fallen angel with “so many faces,” symbolizing the deceptive glow of early love. As the haze lifts, the narrator confronts the painful truth: nothing was real. It’s a visceral, emotionally charged journey from blind devotion to brutal clarity—crafted to resonate with anyone who’s ever loved too deeply, too soon.
One Flew Over was formed in 2019 and is composed of Irene Ní Chuinn (Vocals) & Martin Quinn (Guitar and other instruments) from Kells, Co. Meath. Their sound contains influences of Rock, classic Rhythm & Blues and Soul. Martin was previously a member of Little Palace and a live touring musician with acts like TURN, Eimear Quinn, Hail The Ghost and many more. The mission with the sound of One Flew Over is Rock/Pop/Soul and vintage RnB sitting comfortably beside contemporaries such as Hozier, Celeste, Amy Winehouse, Beatles, Adele, Rag n Bone Man, Brandi Carlisle, Mary J Blige. Teddy Swims, Nina Simone, and Sam Cooke.
Interview with One Flew Over

(º)> What inspired the creation of Eyes Open?
The origins of this song came from a piano improvisation, particularly the pre-chorus melody , together with the theme of the song, which refers to the frustration of not being enough in a relationship.
(º)> How do you blend indie-rock, Baroque pop, and soul without losing your core sound?
We’re in this really nice position where our songs get to grow organically and reveal themselves as we compose and write them together…. In general, this is just where our sound has pivoted towards. This is One Flew Over. Its a mix of both of our influences and the music we lean towards.
(º)> Which elements of Florence + The Machine or Annie Lennox influenced this track most?
Definitely the vigour and strength of the track. The gutsy stand up courage of the track. Its very liberating!
(º)> How does Eyes Open differ from your previous single, The You Show?
The You Show was a more quirky flirty song in its bones. Eyes Open bounds along at a very different frequency. Its a fearless and maybe even valiant rant. I love this tune!
(º)> How do your Irish roots shape your music?
We both come from very musical families. My own family were drawn towards more traditional music and the house was always buzzing with some music or other and we were very much encouraged to play an instrument, any instrument and to sing and dance. We were immersed in this from a very young age. Martins family are all in music locally and so he was totally immersed in music also from a young age…..

(º)> What’s the story behind the formation of One Flew Over in 2019?
COVID 19 happened to us all and it gave us the space to reflect and to write. It takes time and space to create songs and this worked really well for us both.
(º)> How do Martin’s experiences with Little Palace and other acts feed into your sound?
Little Palace was one of my first indulgences into music production and it occurred before computers were really capable of dealing with audio so we used analog tape and digital tape machines - things were more difficult to achieve then and the challenges I faced then were actually a really excellent learning experienceand very much informed and are a sum of who I am today as a producer. We weren’t particularly keen at that time to use synths in the sound as we felt it would date it and in some ways Im still not drawn towards using them. In this project the production tends to lean towards more earthy organic sounds.

(º)> How do you balance vintage RnB and soul with contemporary influences like Hozier and Celeste?
The nice thing about being independent is that we can just be the sum of ourselves in terms of our sound. The project and the music hasn't been created to fill a void, which is really exciting for us. We write and compose songs and this is what comes out : )
(º)> What do you want listeners to feel when they hear Eyes Open?
Liberated! Connected : ) In my mind music and songs get to see another dimension of us… whether we’re driving in our car singing along or running on a treadmill or just listening - wherever you are on the earth, when you connect with a song it helps you to feel something and to process. I hope somebody somewhere can listen to Eyes Open and feel a connection to the song as they belt it out.

(º)> How does this single set the stage for your debut album in early 2026?
Its edgy, its a bit bossy….This single might just make the cut for the album : ) We’re so excited about 2026. There is so much more to come : )
