Interview with Myles Sky

(•)> What inspired the songwriting behind “Goodbye Letter”?

I write from real experiences; it's a follow-up single from my album This Is How I Sink. I suffer from depression and anxiety, so everything I write is how I'm feeling at the time. Goodbye Letter is an emotional track about finally letting go of that pain and that one person who left you in the dirt.

(•)> How did recording at home influence the emotional depth of the track?

Honestly, it made it feel more real, like I was just writing my feelings down.

(•)> Can you describe the personal experiences that shaped the lyrics of this song?

Without naming names of anyone, I was in a long-term relationship, and when we split up, it absolutely broke me. So Goodbye Letter is me saying that final goodbye to how I have been feeling and trying to say hello to a new me.

(•)> How does “Goodbye Letter” reflect your growth as an artist?

Goodbye Letter became very popular very quickly, since releasing Goodbye Letter, I have had record labels reach out, and this song is going to be featured in four music blogs/Magazines.

(•)> What challenges did you face while translating your emotions into music for this album?

The biggest challenge I faced was actually writing it all down; it was hard for me to close out that chapter of my life. Thinking, have I made the right decision, or shall I hold on?

(•)> How do you approach writing about themes like heartbreak and personal growth authentically?

I've been through it. All my life, I have had to overcome difficult obstacles, and I feel the best way for me to let out how I'm feeling is putting it into music.

(•)> In what ways does your coastal hometown influence your sound or songwriting?

Saltburn is an amazing place to live, surrounded by the sea and knowing its heritage also. Listening to the sound of the sea calms my mind and helps me write tracks like Goodbye Letter.

(•)> How has your journey with depression impacted your music and creative process?

Before I started releasing my tracks, I kept thinking Why should I release them? No one will care, and no one will listen. But I released my first track, 'Overthinking,' on a whim. It was meant to just be for m,e and then it started picking up pace. And then here I am today with a full album out and working on a second.

(•)> What do you hope listeners take away emotionally from “Goodbye Letter”?

I just hope that if anyone is going through the same thing as me, take a note from the song that things can get better over time, yes, you can be upset and thinking, is this right for me? But at some point, you need to take that step back and think, yes, this is right for me, I need to move on.

(•)> Looking ahead to your album release on November 29th, what are your goals for connecting with audiences?

I can't release too much about my upcoming album, but I hope it does connect with people, as it's the second chapter of This is how I sink. My new album will be about turning that upset, turning that depression into a controlled anger so you can rise above it. And work on a better you.
