Funkeestas - Unveil

Independent funk-rock innovators Funkeestas return with their bold new single “Unveil”, a track that fuses heavy funk grooves, psychedelic tones, and apocalyptic imagery into a cinematic listening experience.

“Unveil” dives deep into the darker side of Funkeestas, with its raw lyricism, layered instrumentals, and brooding energy, the track pushes Funkeestas into uncharted territory—bridging funk, alternative rock, and storytelling in a way that’s uniquely their own.

Following recent releases such as “Funkery of the Warlocks” and “Gremlins of Funk”, “Unveil” completes the trilogy and marks the band’s most intense and narrative-driven work yet. Expect a new chapter in Funkeestas’ evolving cosmic-funk universe, but also a powerful standalone track that captures the band’s signature mix of groove, grit, and imagination. “Unveil” is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major music streaming platforms.

Interview with Funkeestas

Funkeestas

(º)> What was the creative spark that led to Unveil, and how did you translate that into the music?

How "Unveil" came about is neither intentional nor coincidental. As a lyricist, words just randomly pour down in a flow state, where in that flow state, an uninhibited truth is expressed. And I would know if wat i wrote has some extraordinary element to it , if, as soon as I show it to Marcus, the composer, he can already hear in his head the music the moment he reads it. And when the piece is done, we will be flabbergasted to discover that what we created is a part of a collective narrative of songs that seamlessly form a concept album that neither of us have planned nor are aware of doing so. If it's true that "artists" are mediums that can possibly receive creative sparks from unknown or universal source, then I can confidently say that unveil is a piece that sprung from creative subconscious or intuition.

(º)> How do you balance heavy funk grooves with psychedelic tones without losing cohesion?

We don't intently balance. Music is arranged or expressed with how the lyrics flow. Words and music both paint a picture to describe a flowing idea and their perfect dance is wat constitutes the cohesiveness.

(º)> The track has apocalyptic imagery — what inspired those themes lyrically?

We didn't choose apocalyptic themes. We could actually go for bright and sunny summer grooves if we want, but we can only work at wat resonates at the moment. Hence, we choose to keep our art as sincere and truthful as possible

(º)> How did the recording process differ from your previous work, and were there any experimental techniques used?

No need to experiment because we can actually hear arrangements in our heads even before we start working on it. We just transform those pure ideas into sound.

(º)> Which instruments or sounds were most critical to achieving the cinematic feel of Unveil?

None in particular, as each instrument is rhythmically independent of one another but are intricately written and arranged to form a cohesive thought or expression.

(º)> How do you approach storytelling in your music while keeping the energy of alternative funk alive?

We just take care of the sense and the sound takes care of itself.

(º)> What challenges did you face pushing Funkeestas into “uncharted territory” with this track?

To be truthful with our approach in our own art takes a lot of courage. It's the courage that elevates, and it's the sincerity that satisfies us with our results.

(º)> How do you want listeners to feel when they experience Unveil for the first time?

True art is indisputable, and will always be perceived the way the artist intended it to be perceived, or digested

(º)> Are there particular artists, eras, or genres that influenced the mood and style of this track?

We are heavily influenced by our musical heroes, but at this point in time, we hope we can contribute something new at the table, especially in this very saturated music industry.

To serve art in the most sincere way is our top priority

(º)> If you could perform Unveil in any setting or location, real or imagined, where would it be and why?

We always opt for real, so we'd like to perform it at the Frontlines. Cuz it's a battle song, a manifestation of how a battle is won not by sheer force, but by simply making the enemies turn against one another. A spellbound silent battle. Magic is real. Light and love.
