Amelina - Step By Step

“Step by Step” is an uplifting pop anthem by 12-year-old AMELINA, inspired by her move to Spain at a young age and her journey learning a new language and culture. The piano-led pop track celebrates perseverance, belief, and growth. Perfect for editorial playlists like Teen Beats, Pop Rising, or motivational back‑to‑school vibes.

Interview with Amelina

(º)> What inspired you to write “Step by Step” at just 12 years old?

My father wrote the song. When I was really struggling, nothing was working out, and I was at risk of having to repeat a year of school. I didn't want to learn the language! My father supported me, saying, "I know you! You'll get it step by step! And next year you'll be a leader!" And that's exactly what happened.

(º)> How did moving to Spain influence the themes of perseverance and growth in the song?

I'm always interested in challenging myself. There's really no point in competing with anyone but yourself. That's the only way to become better. Moving to Spain was a challenge for me.

ree

(º)> Which lyric or moment in the track feels most personal to you?

A highlight in the song? Definitely the chorus, "Step by step, I'll conquer this mountain!" Although the whole song is about me. And, as it turns out, not only about me.

(º)> How do you approach making music that reflects real teenage experiences?

The most important thing is to be sincere. I discuss this with my parents; my father finds the right expression for what I feel, both in words and in music.

ree

(º)> How does learning a new language and culture shape your songwriting?

Well, I'm interested in the knowledge I'm currently gaining. Spanish artists and culture. I think you can already hear it in that song about "Roblox." I'm starting to sing in Spanish. I'm really just learning, and it's better to learn from others' experiences. I want to release a cover of DJ Play a Christmas Song (by Cher with Belinda) for the New Year.

(º)> What role does the piano play in conveying the song’s uplifting energy?

Oh, well, actually, my progress on the piano is still very, very modest. Spain is interesting because even in school, you're required to learn a musical instrument. So, I'm learning not only guitar and piano, but also flute. And it all started in Spain; before that, I only studied vocals.

ree

(º)> How do you balance pop-rock elements with cinematic storytelling in your music?

Intonation, mood, and emotion are very important. But I can't say I always succeed.

(º)> Which message do you hope listeners take away from “Step by Step”?

"Step by Step" is about not giving up even when things aren't going your way; the journey is mastered by the one who keeps going. Choose a goal and go for it.

ree

(º)> How do you stay brave and authentic as a young artist in the music scene?

That's just who I am. I don't consider myself brave. I love singing. It's not really a case of "jumping on stage and singing straight away." It's the result of constant practice. But it's great when you realize it's all worth it, you're getting it!

(º)> What’s next for you after releasing this debut anthem?

After releasing this song, there's still a lot of work to do. Incidentally, singing your own songs is easier than singing other people's. There's no one to compare you to. But singing songs by Sia, Cher, and Shakira, capturing their mood—that takes effort. Of course, there will be my own songs too—some about how hard it was for me as a child to go to bed on time and tear myself away from a computer game, and some about how tired I get of being obedient and proper, and wanting to change something in my life, especially around New Year's...
