OpCritical’s “Doing Fine” keeps the band’s mission blunt and unmissable.

Music as a warning. Formed in 2026, the project leans hard into protest-song territory, taking aim at autocracy, civic decay, and the everyday erosion of decency, tolerance, honesty, and the rule of law.

“Doing Fine” is the band’s fourth song this year, and it pushes the message with the same urgency that has already helped the project gather serious attention online and on radio.

What is the central idea behind “Doing Fine”?

Being oneself is a badge of honor, while conformity is boring.

How do you balance message-driven writing with musical accessibility?

People are really sick of love songs. With the state of the world today, people want inspiration, and that's what we provide.

Why was irony chosen as a key emotional device in this track?

Is it irony or simply the truth? We are direct in our lyrics.

How do you decide what issues to address in your songwriting?

We try to address issues that affect people everywhere, and there are many of those issues today.

What does anonymity or reduced focus on members mean for your identity as a band?

We want listeners to focus on the music and the message. We have no ego in this game.

How do you approach writing without diluting urgency or clarity?

Most songs get written fast. We recorded Doing Fine live in two takes, and then did a few overdubs. Our writing comes to us as through a conduit rather than through a writing process. This song was written in less than an hour.

What role has audience response played in shaping your output so far?

We are very tuned in to the anxieties of America and the world, so we can reflect those in our music. We have some amazing songs that will be released this summer.

Do you see your music as commentary, documentation, or call-to-action?

All of the above, but also we are really good at what we do so we want people to be inspired by every song and video.

How do you sustain creative momentum with such frequent releases?

We have written many songs and could release one each week this year. The logjam is the videos, which take more time. But with all the dangers facing humanity, the songs spring eternal.

What do you hope listeners do after hearing “Doing Fine”?

We want people to look at themselves in the mirror and say, "Am I who I am or who someone else wants me to be?" If it's the latter, then we want them to be themselves.
