Pigeon Opinion Featuring an Interview with Emily Sophia

Emily Sophia is a singer/songwriter from Southern California. She released her debut EP titled Golden State in 2023. Her influences are Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lorde. Rather than keeping a diary, Emily Sophia turns to songwriting to express her emotions, and her goal is to share her experiences with others and have them relate to her music as well.

(^)> Your latest single is "Alive." What inspired this song, and what are you hoping your listeners will feel?

I was listening to a lot of 90's bands like The Sundays and The Cardigans and wanted to make something with a similar vibe. I hope that listeners feels whimsical and like they want to run through a meadow while crying over their crush who doesn't like them back.

(^)> Your music is inspired by different artists like Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lorde. What role does this play in your music and storytelling?

I feel like all these artists balance out having strong lyrics and writing styles while also have good melody and production. Someone asked me if I'm more of a lyric songwriter or a music writer and I feel like both are equally important and it's about finding the balance between both.

(^)> You use your music as a form of expression rather than a diary. What role does this play in your connection with your listeners?

It really opens me up to my listeners. I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve for everybody.

(^)> You are coming off your debut EP Golden State. What role does your latest single "Alive" play in your growth as an artist?

Golden State leaned more traditional pop and I feel like Alive is more adventurous and edgy in terms of production.

(^)> You are a new artist to many listeners. What are you hoping they will feel and learn from your latest single "Alive"?

I hope new listeners love the sound I'm going for and that it makes them stick around for the next EP that I'm planning on releasing this year!
