Pigeon Opinion Featuring a Review of Strife EP by Flight To Dubai

Strife is their breakthrough EP, a raucous romp through proto-punk-tinged garage rock that perfectly encapsulates the band’s live energy and spirit. Songs like “Firefighter Lady” and “Crycentennial Man” speed by with a charming recklessness, while darker, more emotionally charged lyrics lie just beneath the surface. Strife is a band with a clear love for early 1970s rock sounds, specifically the New York Dolls sound merged with garage punk, but they’re also a band with a clear love for keeping things tight and unpredictable, never really getting too polished. The lo-fi sound and baritone vocals make Strife sound like a live show in full swing, rather than a studio recording. While at times Strife is a bit uneven, veering wildly from shout-along mayhem to introspective rock, it’s also part of its appeal, a sound that’s raw, genuine, and unapologetically loud.
