MANHIGH STILL KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE DESERT ROCK

“staring at the sun” finds the Albuquerque trio returning to their spacey heavy-rock with a renewed sense of immediacy

The Albuquerque trio have built their identity around the collision of desert-rock weight and cosmic imagery, but what interests me here is how little the band seems to need to overstate either side of that equation.

Heavy guitar, low-end punch, rhythmic momentum and enough space around the edges to let the songs feel larger than the room. “staring at the sun” sits naturally within that amazing formula. I hear the same affection for thick rock textures reopening a chapter that had been dormant for six years.

I recommend “staring at the sun” to anyone who likes desert rock with genuine melodic instinct and a little cosmic dust still hanging in the air.
