Los Angeles DIY, fronted by Julie Gilbert, with a catalogue that moves through lo-fi emo, punk, and queer-coded self-mythology from loud through proof of concept. That history matters in a live setting, because the songs already arrive carrying the grain of home. “let down,” “live wire,” “infinite grid,” and the eight-minute sprawl of “mouth of a whale” trust vulnerability to carry the hook. They push toward the same compact, emotionally loaded shapes, which is exactly why the Red Brontosaurus Records full set hits me as more than a casual local gig. It feels like a small room being used as a pressure chamber. For me, the power here is how decisively this band turns bruised intimacy into forward motion.
