Jeremy Nail Makes Quiet Feel Heavy on Fleeting Things

A late-2023 recording released in November 2025, the four-song EP finds the Austin songwriter working in a stripped-down, atmospheric register that suits him beautifully

What I admire most about Fleeting Things is how little Jeremy Nail needs to say before the songs begin to carry their own weight. Recorded in late 2023 and issued as a four-song, 18-minute EP on Nov. 28, 2025, it catches his songwriting in a stark, atmospheric frame that never feels overdesigned. I hear close-mic acoustic guitars, soft keyboard haze, and just enough instrumental color to widen the room around the vocals.

For me, “Finally Free” is patient, inward-looking, and unafraid of silence. “Dry River” tightens the emotional screw, while “Before the Flood” opens things up with upright bass and a brief sunbreak of hope. The title track lands with the EP’s most delicate optimism, and that ending gives the record a quiet afterglow. Nail has built a long career as a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, but here he sounds especially attuned to space, detail, and restraint. The result is a mood piece with a strong narrative pull.
