The seasoned singer-songwriter delivers a brilliant, deeply intimate roots-pop record that trades grand production gestures for raw, present-tense honesty

I’ve spent the past few days fully immersed in James Burke’s latest full-length album, Here, Right Now. This LP pulls back the curtain to reveal a masterclass in organic, roots-tinged storytelling.

For me, the album's magic lies in its absolute refusal to rush. Burke constructs an incredibly warm, live-in-the-room atmosphere, relying on crisp acoustic fingerpicking, a wonderfully subtle rhythm section, and a rich, close-mic vocal mix that feels like he's performing at the foot of your bed. The vulnerable songwriting here displays immense artistic growth.

The title track, "Here, Right Now" is an immediate standout, building beautifully from a lone acoustic guitar into a swelling, brass-kissed crescendo that highlights his uncanny ability to capture the weight of fleeting moments. Another personal favorite, with its driving bassline and classic Americana-meets-modern-folk textures, sounds like Noah Kahan collaborating with vintage Laurel Canyon. It is an authentic, beautifully realized record that forces you to slow down, look around, and realize that Burke is operating at the absolute peak of his powers.
