1. Cru Cru Deep Death Trap, super nice to have the chance to chat with you (again :)) )! What makes your brain work?
Hello, it’s good to be back! Yes, I just release the 3rd single from my new record titled ‘Blood’. It’s a song about overcoming obstacles, believing in yourself and not giving up on running down a dream. The voice of the lyrics comes from how I was feeling when I was just out of High School. So to say it’s based on a true story is an understatement.
What makes my brain work? In general?
Lots of coffee. The subject matter on my latest record is all very personal. I’ve found that is best way I know how to express myself. I can write a song to write a song, and have. But I really have to put as much of myself into it as possible to believe in it. And this new record is really about sorting through coming of age and finding the strength to believe in yourself through everything that life throws at you.
2. Can you tell us a holy day memory of yours?
I grew up in the mid-west. Illinois. We get a lot of snow there. I remember being snowed in when I was young. Snow falling outside of an ice covered window. School being canceled. Watching my chameleons on top of the register move around while waiting on the word from my mother that I could go outside and build a snowman. Looking forward to Christmas, it still holding some sort of magic that only a child understands. I see it in my daughters face now, it’s special.
3. What’s your favorite flavor?
Coffee has become my go to these days. I would say chocolate would be a strong second.
4. Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?
Something embarrassing? That’s a tough one. I don’t get embarrassed about much these days. It took me a long time to just except myself for who I am. When I look back it seems I’ve worn so many hats over the years thinking that’s what some one would want, or friends or family wanted to see. Only to finally realize that I didn’t ever really need one in the first place.
5. What’s the worst decade for music?
I don’t think there has been one? Every decade no matter how big or small there has always been some great music. Some have been better than others at suiting my musical tastes. I’ve found more as I’ve gotten older I shy away more from what could be considered ‘popular’ music. Thinking about it now I’ve always leaned more on the side of finding music that has been undiscovered by the music industry machine. Finding that talented artist that no one has ever heard of. I think everyone at one time or another has come across someone like that.
6. What’s your favorite 2020’s artist?
My favorite artist of 2020 was Travis Meadows, and still one of my favorites to this day. He is such a great songwriter and the way he delivers his songs he really makes you believe every word. If you haven’t heard of him before, he’s definitely worth taking for a spin.
7. What’s the best experience you ever had?
Best experience, usually the bad ones. It always seems so terrible when whatever it is is happening. But I’ve had sometime to move on from it. It usually opens a door, or makes me realize something I had been overlooking. I’m notorious for saying ‘well, it’ll make for a good story, or a great song’
8. How is your music experience going?
All I’ve really ever wanted to do was write songs. And after all this time I feel like I can finally say what I have to say the way that I want to say it. My latest record ‘Blood’ seems to keep finding new listeners everyday. I’m very thankful for the way it’s been received and the audience that it has found. It’s had a grass roots life all the way around which is all I ever wanted for it. Every stream, like, share, follow, doesn’t go unnoticed. I’m grateful for all of it. So I would have to say my experience has been good. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster ride.
9. What’s your favorite album and movie for life?
It’s so hard to pick just one. When I’m not making music I’m usually watching a movie to unwind before I get back to working on music.. so top 5 off the top of my head? In no particular order.
Movies: The Big Lewbowski, Fight Club, A Star Is Born, Death Sentence, The Lost Boys
Honorable mentions: Goodfellas, The Shinning, Jaws
Music: Fleetwood Mac - Rumors, Brother Dege - Farmers Almanac, Jellyfish - Spilt Milk, Jason Isbell - Southeastern, Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Honorable mentions: Bon Jovi - These days, Tom Petty - Damn The Torpedo’s, Chris Stapleton- Traveler, Travis Meadows - Killin Uncle Buzzy
See.. It’s so hard for me to pick just one.
