1. Cru Cru Gary Dranow, super nice to have the chance to chat with you! What first got you into music?

Well, two things. When my mom was driving me somewhere when I 13 years or so old I heard Cream's Crossroads on the radio and knew right then I had to become a guitar player/singer. I had my mom immediately turn around and take me to Ernie Balls guitar, this was in 1967 I believe. We walked out of there with a '66 Stratocaster which was Olympic white over Sunburst. I have the guitar to this day. I'll leave out my early lessons and flailing at music before I got the whole playing then singing thing figured out but that was comical and sad, I was a Bi-Polar 1 with mania (as was my dad). Of course, I wouldn't be diagnosed for 30 something years, but music is where I ultimately turned to in my lowest cycles and through that I started writing and my love affair with music grew to a lifelong passion. Here I am today, finally releasing my cathartic album Destiny Road (drops May 12, 2023) and have written the 14 songs, with Chris Zoupa (Teramaze) for my next album, Never Give up, due out the fall/winter of 2023.

2. Can you tell us a cringe memory of yours?

Hah! Good one. I’ve had so many. When I was performing in one of my very early band, Ultra Manic run by a interesting kid named Karl Macura (wonder what happened to him, can’t find him on Facebook). Anyway, I was kind of nuts in those days and did things like play the guitar over my head or behind my back (I had not seen Hendrix perform live at this point but knew his music very well). On this occasion I was playing on my back and Karl decided to stand over my head and lower his butt down. I got up quickly. A friend of mine after the show, Chris Riddle, asked me how embarrassed I was,. I just turned red and dropped the whole incident, but I calmed down my stage performance a bit after that. Lol.

3. What’s your favorite color?

Emerald. Like the hills here in Park City.

4 Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?

Yeah. I’ve got a 68 year prostrate and when I have to pee it’s with urgency. So one of the times I couldn’t wait another second I was on the freeway and just had to pull over. While I was doing my business on the side of the freeway a Highway Patrol pulled up behind me to see what the issue was. I simply told him about the state of affairs and that I had leather seats. Anyway, he took pity on me and let me go with a warning not to do that again and of course he told me the litany of laws I was breaking. Though I was relieved (Pun intended) I was quite embarrassed!

5. What’s the best decade for music?

1960’s without a doubt. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, The Beatles, The Three Kings (Albert, Freddie and BB) should I go on?

6. What’s your favorite 00’s artist?

Anything with Chris Cornell in it.

7. What’s the best advice for livin' life?

Never give up on your dreams! Be kind to all and NEVER sell your guitars!

8. How is your musosoup experience going?

Fantastic. I can’t believe all the support and love I am getting, A special place!

9. Who is the goat?

Wow, that’s a toughie! I’d have to say Robert Johnson.
