On Sea Shanties for Future Sailors, I hear Fistfights With Wolves sharpening their edge. The album runs nine songs and 34:47, arrived on May 30, 2026, and the delves into experimental math rock, progressive rock, chamber rock, indie jazz, modern classical. It opens with “Prelude” and “Pirates,” then pushes through “Gambler,” “Ice Eater,” “Archons,” “Desert,” “Thing Eater,” “Elegy,” and “Recapitulation,” which makes it feel like a compressed suite.

For me, the album’s real strength is restraint inside complexity. I hear arrangements that keep their pulse taut while still leaving room for melody to break through the machinery. The contrast between the opening material and the later, more reflective titles gives the record a real narrative arc, and compared with 2023’s The Sheep That Eats The Wolf, this feels even more focused and conceptually lean. I came away feeling like the band has learned how to make density feel aerodynamic.
