Deathshine Tighten the Screws on Groove Metal’s Backbeat

Thick riffs, sharper pacing, and a clearer sense of identity define Deathshine’s 2025 single run. On Beware the Worms, Cyclone, and No One, the Los Angeles band sounds like a promising local act learning how to make weight feel agile.

For me, Deathshine are at their best when they let groove do the heavy lifting. The Los Angeles band describe themselves as groove metal, and in interview they point to Metallica, Mastodon, Gojira, System of a Down, Coheed and Cambria, and John Frusciante as pieces of the puzzle.

Across the 2025 rollout of Beware the Worms (July 14), Cyclone (July 21), and No One (Nov. 22), I hear a group refining that mix into something leaner and more confident, with “Cyclone” standing out as the track they themselves say they most enjoyed writing and performing. they land with enough heft to satisfy, but with enough swing to keep the riffs moving and pounding away. That balance gives Deathshine real momentum, and it makes this three-song stopgap stretch feel like a statement.
