On sleeping, the Vancouver songwriter pares everything back, delivering an intimate five-song EP where understated arrangements and melodic restraint speak loud

Released on August 31, 2025, the five-track, 18-minute EP follows a string of standalone releases including time to talk, ballad, funk, walk your line, and she talks, and I can hear those individual experiments converging into something more cohesive.

For me, the title track immediately establishes the record's emotional center. Blue Rivera lets atmosphere carry the weight, pairing warm guitar textures with melodies that unfold patiently. That same sense of restraint continues across the EP, where each song feels intentionally sequenced to preserve momentum without sacrificing intimacy. What impresses me most is the songwriting's confidence. Every instrumental choice serves the emotional tone. I hear traces of indie rock, dream-pop, and alternative singer-songwriter traditions. It presents an artist becoming more assured in their own voice, trusting subtle dynamics, thoughtful pacing, and honest performances. It's an understated record that rewards repeated listening, revealing new textures and emotional nuances each time I return to it.
