Artist INTERVIEW: THE CURSE OF K.K. HAMMOND

1. Cru Cru The Curse of K.K. Hammond , super nice to have the chance to

chat with you! What first got you into music?

Hello my avian friend! When I was a kid my dad would play flamenco guitar for me and I developed a fascination with it. There is a lot of cross-over between early blues guitar and Spanish music. "Spanish tuning" was a term coined to describe open G tuning on guitar, a very popular blues tuning. I felt very drawn to all sorts of early folk music and all the emotion it evokes. I also love story teIling and enjoyed The brothers Grimm and the like as a kid. I think it was on the cards that I was going to pick up a guitar and tell some rather dark stories through song!

2.When did you fall in love with colors?

I always thought that blue was pretty cool when I looked at the sky as a little kid, I'm sure you love sky blue too being a pigeon. I think I've always got a little dopamine rush from looking at pastels, specifically mint green and sky blue. A nice dusky lilac always gets me going too. Black is also extra cool, albeit a shade rather than a color as so far my understanding goes.

3. What are your long term goals?

It would be fantastic if I continued to grow my following and sold a decent amount of records but I try not to be too goal orientated as that can cause you to lose focus on your passions. My true passion is writing songs and recording new music. I guess I would say is my goal is for music to continue bringing me happiness and the profound enjoyment that it does and if people love it along the way that's a huge bonus!

4.What's your favorite 2010's album?

Thats a super tricky question as I listen to so much early roots music and that has always dominated my focus. However, The Sea of Cowards by The Dead Weather came out in 2010 and I loved that. Especially the song "The Difference Between Us" which I often put on Repeat. I think most projects Jack White touches turn to gold.

5. Do you enjoy playing videogames?

I sure do! I've always enjoyed gaming a moderate amount but the day I put on a VR headset I absolutely freaked out! It was like a dream come true for me, a way to step out of my head into an alternative reality which I really do need sometimes. My hands down favorite game of all time is "Until Dawn: Rush of Blood." They are bringing out a sequel and I am beside myself with excitement for that! I can't wait to shoot some more scary clowns and monsters on a rollercoaster...naturally averting my aim if I see a pigeon.

6.What triggers your nostalgic feelings?

Smells, man! I think smells take me back to certain times and places most effectively. Whether it be the smell of food or a place or what ever other scent, it always does the trick for me.

7. How do you spend your time?

I live on a farm so keeping that running as well as my job working with horses keeps me busy. All my spare time is spent listening to and writing or recording music! I can waste hours at a time picking a guitar and enjoying myself. I guess that can be considered productive procrastination. I also love watching horror movies but it's frustrating trying to find new ones as sometimes it feels like I've watched all the good ones and no new good ones are out.

8. What's your favorite 60's artist?

A toss up between The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Led Zepplin.

9. What is the biggest decision you've had to make?

Choosing between Chinese takeaway and pizza is always a killer. It the decision pains you it's sometimes best to just got with sushi.

10. Do You agree with the Pigeon?

On the fact that seeds are an amazing snack? Hell yeah I do! My favorite would be freshly roasted pumpkin seeds in their shells with salt and olive oil. I'm not so sure all that sodium would be good for a pigeon so you'd likely prefer your seeds in a more natural state? That's cool, I don't judge.

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify.
