1. Hey Sadie Nix, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?
Nice to meet you too! I grew up in a house where music was always playing and some of my earliest memories have music in the background. I was always involved in music during school and have always attend as much live music as possible. I used to write and sing when I was younger but never did anything with it until I was gifted the time over lock-down to really start getting back into it!
2. What’s your favorite 00’s artist?
Wow that is a big question as it was such an amazing decade for music, I would say overall it would have to be Taylor Swift, giving us both, folk, country and pop and really showcasing female song writing talent; she is the reason I picked up the guitar.
3. Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it?
Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it? Since I started doing my own music during lock-down, I haven’t played it live yet but watch this space! However, I would like to thing there have been some wicked karaoke performances over the years 😊
4. What memorable responses have you had to your work?
Well, you always remember the really bad ones more then the good ones, so my favorite was “that whoever told me I could sing should be shot….but then she said, but I’m not trying to be rude or anything, which I found amusing” you really have to develop a thick skin. I think the fact that anyone takes the time to steam or listen to my song is what is memorable to me as that is all that matters, that someone somewhere finds joy in something you created!
5. Do you think that technology is improving lives?
I think in a lot of ways it is, ideas and people are so much more accessible then ever before, however, like all things in life, you can have too much of a good thing!
6. How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I think it has given artists like myself a platform that we might not have had in the past so that is amazing and also the ability to reach so many different people all over the world. However, I am worried music is now becoming disposable and the craft is being eroded. The death of the album and tracks over 3 minutes I think highlights that social media impact seems to matter more then the quality of music. Underpin this with not getting paid fairly for streaming etc and it is a dangerous place for many musicians trying to have a career.
7. Do you have a mentor or coach?
I have been so lucky to work with so many amazing people in my short career and they have all had such an impact but I would say that working with Ted Sablay firstly on my guitar playing but now on song writing and career development has really given me the confidence to do what I am doing and I really credit him with encouraging me to release my own music!
8. What’s your favorite 80’s album?
Well that’s like picking a favorite child so I have narrowed it down to 3 but my god it was hard: Bruce Springsteen, 'Nebraska', Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation (barely in the 80’s) and U2 The Joshua Tree
9. What are you most proud of?
The fact that I am going after my dream even when at times it felt like I left it to late in life. I have realized it is never to late and I am doing something that makes me happy and if others like it as well, that is an amazing bonus.
