ARTIST INTERVIEW: ROBERT VENDETTA

Interview

1. Cru cru Clamber, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. I laready know that your father got you ino music. What's your favorite song from his?

- Hello, hello. You're right! Well, my dad only sang covers. Mostly country songs. Maybe he translated a song or two to Norwegian, but that's it. But, when I hear "One good Love" by Neil Young and Waylon Jennings it always reminds me of my dad. He was a great singer.

2. Did you discover new music during your trip to Mexico?

- Well, I discovered that Swedish "Ace Of Base" was big in Mexico ten years after they were big in Europe. Jajaja. But yes, of course I got to listen to the likes of Luis Miguel, Jose Jose and such. I got more into the stuff the moms of my friends were listening to then what my friends were listening to.

3. What's your favorite song from rhe one and only Shakira?

- Ooooh, that's hard. She has so many great songs! But from her first part of her career it must be either "Tú" or "Inevitable." From the later part... I woke up to the song "Addicted to you" for like half a year and I still love that song. Even though it was my wake-up-alarm! So maybe that one?

4. What’s the best advice you ever gave to another fellow musician?

- It's always the same: practise! I used to have guitar pupils and then wouldn't practise. They were there to please their parents, and I wouldn't charge them money to watch them practise. So we had a talk, and they told their parent guitar wasn't for them.

5. What is "Vendetta del Disco" and why is it so danceable?

- Well, it was a place in Italy. I think it was a discotheque. And it's my new album. Why it's danceable I don't really know, you tell me. I like to make music you can dance to, and I love to dance to music with a great groove. So maybe that's why?

6. What is so special about disco?

- The album? Well, it's my fourth album which is special to me. And it's more daring than my previous albums. We've delved into more genres and I worked closely with my band on this one. I was still in charge, but I wasn't the only one in charge.

7. What songs and albums are still inspiring this retro work of yours?

- Honestly; all sorts of albums and songs. The album "Heroes" by Bowie of course became a clear inspiration, and probably tracks like the excellent "Blackout" from that album. But I get inspired by all sorts of music. "Fool" shows how much I like the runs of Ariana Grande. But hey, I'm a sponge when it comes to music - I listen to it all. On Sunday I listened to great, complex works of György Ligeti!

8. What's so special about Europe?

- Oh, no you're asking difficult questions. I find Latin-America special, but I also find Croatia special. There's a lot of nice places and people all over the world and I love the fact that the cultures and people are different. I find it inspiring.

9. Are you a fan of Saturday Night Fever?

- Of course! It's a gem!

10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?

- But of course!

Review

Check out the new original album by Robert Vendetta: "Vendetta del Disco"!

The album's title track is born in the cradle of a female background choir that works almost as if it were a sample and promises us an extremely joyful song! Here, Robert Vendetta's artwork reminds me so much of the charisma of David Bryne, the creative genius behind Talking Heads. "Vendetta del Disco" is a cacophonous single that keeps you tapping your foot. Then, halfway through, there's a pause in which the piano keys, which have been whirring around, become more intense and the drumming gives the song more punch! "Vendetta del Disco" makes me spin euphorically on the dance floor, where I get a kaleidoscopic vision that makes me see the night in a uniquely colorful and psychedelic way!
