Artist INTERVIEW: ROBERT HUNTER

1. Cru Cru Robert Hunter, super nice to have the chance to chat with you! What first got you into music?

I grew up wanting to be a Solid Gold dancer but the show got cancelled before I was born and I can't dance. The closest I came to that dream was performing live, starting at the age of 3, on the counter of my parents restaurant in Danville PA for the lunchtime crowd. They seemed to enjoy my lip-synching to the days top hits on the radio, so I figured, I'd settle for being a singer.

2. What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Where do I begin...If you mean Permanent, I can tell you so many people from all over the world who say that the song meant something to them because they are going through a hard time. That means so much to me. That was the whole point of the song. In terms of my least favorable responses overall, I'd have to say it is the relentless badgering I get for having been born with the name Robert Hunter, which happens to be the name a member of the Grateful Dead changed his to, because, I guess, he didn't like his real birthame "Burns." I have no issue with GD fans but some of them have an issue with me just for going with the name my momma gave me. Other than that, it's been an amazing journey musically. I got to tour all 50 US states in one year and performed over 350 shows. They were all awesome, except for some with a pack of vintage VW busses in the parking lot haha.

3. Do you think that technology is improving lives?

I'm not sure. I'll Google it and get back to you 😊

4. Do you have a mentor or coach?

No, but I probably need one.

5. What’s your favorite 80’s album?

I didn't have many friends when I was a little kid. In fact, I only had one. His name was Luke and he didn't even speak English. Anyways, I would play records and jump up and down on the bed like a rockstar and he was my audience. Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet album always seemed to go over best with the “crowd,” so I guess I'd have to say that's my favorite 80's album.

6. What are you most proud of?

Musically, it’s the new song Permanent for sure. Mental health and suicide prevention is a cause that’s so important and the song was inspired by some highschool kids in my hometown who are trying to make a positive difference. I am so proud of them and so proud to be a part of it by writing a song and some lyrics that might help someone going through a tough time. If Permanent was the only song I ever wrote, or the last song I ever write, I would consider myself a successful musician, regardless of any commercial accolades.

7. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I try to always just grow and develop as a person. Then, hopefully that translates into the art. If that stops working, I guess I could try guitar lessons at some point, or something.

8. Where is the best place in the world you’ve ever been to?

I’ve been lucky enough to play my music all over the world and in every state in America. I know this sounds like bullshit – but my favorite place changes every time I get the chance to play music for good people. It really doesn’t matter how many. It could be just one person. But everytime I’m playing a song that connects, I think to myself, this is the best place, and the best moment ever.

9. What is one message you would give to your fans?

I’d want them to know that I’m leaving this world, when I go, with a lot of good memories because of their support. You might not hear my songs on the radio very often, but because of them, the fans, I’ve been able to do what I love for the past 6 years, and hopefully help others along the way. That is something I will always be grateful for.

10. Do You agree with the Pigeon?

That’s the funniest, weirdest question I’ve ever been asked in an interview. That’s why I agree with the Pigeon. Pedro is a little strange but all the best people are. I like to think we’re birds of a feather in that way.

While playful and bright keys refine the uplifting track that is "Permanent", its core consists of constant percussion, catchy classic rock guitar riffs and last but not least a thick lead vocal performance embedded in an outstanding indie production!

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify.
