1. Cru cru, what first got you into music?
I grew up in a musical family, my dad plays guitar my mom plays piano and they both sing. So music was with me since I was a kid, I joined a choir when I was 8 and I attempted to learn different instruments as a kid but never had the patience to stick to one. Until I discovered songwriting at 14, that was the catalyst for my path in music. I picked up guitar again and started processing life through the songs I wrote. It became a part of me, I couldn’t stop if I wanted to.
2. What would you do if you had a time machine?
I’ve seen too many movies to try to change the world, it never ends well. So maybe I’d just do careful time tourism, go to concerts of bands I never got to see, commission instruments from legendary luthiers, pet a dinosaur or something haha. Maybe I’d check on the future too and if it’s too terrible I might have to try safe the world after all. That is of course leaving science behind, in reality I would likely do nothing cause the risk of contaminating the timeline and getting a plague and dying is way too high. As you can see I am not a nerd and I totally haven’t thought about this before at all.
3. What’s your favorite album of all time?
This is an impossible question there are so many incredible albums out there. But my most listened to album is probably “Inside Problems” by Andrew Bird. It’s my comfort listen go to, everything about it is so brilliant I don’t even have words for it.
But my answer to this question will vary depending on when you ask it.
4. Will you tell us something embarassing about you?
I once drank the soap water they give you to wash your hands at a fancy restaurant. I am very careful around unidentified drinks ever since.
5. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
A big one is collaborate with other artists, I’m working on 8 collabs at the moment and I always feel hugely inspired by the artistry of others. Writing and singing with other people also often pushes me out of my comfort zone and I always bring back new knowledge that I then use in my own songs too. It can be a new chord, a different approach or a creative technique.
On a more individual note I like to challenge myself once in a while, a great example is Songtober, last month I wrote a song every day. I had prompt words for each session and it made me write songs I would have never written.
6. Are you a music fan?
Yes! I even have my own radio show called “Why Doesn’t Everyone Know These Songs?” where I feature other indie artists music. I get so excited about discovering a great new song, it’s like Christmas every time. I also am a big fan of some of the bigger artists (Coldplay, Glen Hansard, Lisa Hannigan, Snow Patrol, Andrew Bird, Fink…).
7. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
I am a bit of a movie nerd, I love going to the cinema and I have a deep appreciation for the art of filmmaking. But I also love a good book, especially fantasy books can hook me so intensely that I lose sleep to keep reading. I also am getting into Photography, but I still have a lot to learn. Another thing I love is magic shows and playing cards (I collect them), oh and I recently starte knitting!
So the answer is yes although being a full-time artist is quite intense so I don’t often have the time to pursue my hobbies in depth, I just kinda go through phases where I give one of them a bit more attention while the others are on pause.
8. What movie do you love the most?
Another really hard question! A long time my reply would be quite stereotypical “Dead Poets Society” I have seen that film over 10 times and I cry every time. Now it varies more, but I would say “Once” with Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová might be my current favourite, there’s something so beautiful about the way it tells the story and the music is incredible.
9. Who came first? The Pigeon or the egg?
Trick question, we all know Pigeons are magical beings that materialise out of thin air.
10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?
I cru cru
The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
