ARTIST INTERVIEW: LUIZA GIRARDELLO

Cru cru, what first got you into music?

Hard question because I’ve been in and out of it so many times. Absolute first was my mom signing me up for piano lessons when I was little.

What got me to actually decide to do it for a living was getting cancer and confronting my own mortality. It made me realize that If I died tomorrow one of the few things I would regret was not fully dedicating myself to music and seeing what happened.

What would you do if you had a time machine?

Go back in time and stop the invention of plastic.

What’s your favorite album of all time?

I’m not great at picking favorites. The most listened throughout all of my life was probably Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree.

Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?

I’m very uncoordinated and have a really hard time playing instruments. I recently started teaching myself guitar and it’s pretty bad. I’m getting a little bit better with time, but being a professional musician makes it even more embarrassing that I sound so bad!

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I finished music school this year, which was a huge leap in my musicianship and in the way I understand theory, songwriting, and music business. I think the main thing right now is digesting and integrating the huge amount of information that was thrown at me.

Are you a music fan?

You’d think that’s an obvious “yes” but studying music makes a lot of people not be able to listen to relax while listening to music. I’m slowly going back to listening for pleasure now that I’m done. But there’s so much music out there that sometimes it feels overwhelming to even get started. It’s like overstimulation.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I love reading, one of my other occupations is photography, I ride my bike a lot and I recently went back to crocheting. It feels nice to have my hands busy.

What movie do you love the most?

Again, I’m very bad at picking favorites! I recently went to the movies to watch the 20th anniversary remaster of Oldboy (2003), which I’ve loved since I was a teenager. It still holds up, it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever watched.

Who came first? The Pigeon or the egg?

The answer is 42.

Do you agree with the Pigeon?

Blindly.

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
