Cru cru, what first got you into music?
Growing up around legendary musicians! My mom, who is my favorite vocalist and muse, has sung with several Grammy Award-winning and nominated artists— including Walter and Edwin Hawkins (creator of the song "Oh Happy Day"). She was also a lead singer in the movie "Leap of Faith" (starring Steve Martin, Meatloaf, and many others). In having close association with such phenomenal musicians and being raised by one, I couldn't help but catch the music bug.
What would you do if you had a time machine?
I'd keep the '90s era on a loop (removing the bad sociopolitical occurrences and events, of course)! To me, it was just the best era for pop culture—the music, the fashion, film/TV...and I miss the all-around simplicity of life. The sense of community was much stronger back then, and people actually talked and socialized with one another offline more so than behind a screen. I would love to experience those aspects of the '90s again.
What’s your favorite album of all time?
Oohhh...I'll have to plead the fifth on that one because it's too tough to narrow down! A few of the more timeless albums that I've consistently kept on rotation are Invincible (Michael Jackson), Gumbo Unplugged (PJ Morton), Little Voice (Sara Bareilles), and then there's the honorable mention: Pop (*NSYNC).
Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?
Growing up, I used to play board games by myself (LOL). I'm my mom's only child and I didn't have any siblings in the house to play with, so I often resorted to solo Monopoly and Uno "tournaments" to keep myself occupied.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?
Continually composing/writing new material so that I can consistently release new music. I also have the BEST vocal coach, Bob Garrett, who motivates and stretches me to become the best vocalist that I can be.
Are you a music fan?
Absolutely!
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
I love to read, cook, travel, thrift, explore history, support the arts, relax in nature, and go to amusement parks. I live in Orlando, Florida so my husband and I spend loads of time at Disney World and Universal. I'm also a total beach bum. Put me anywhere near the water (with a good book or my songwriting pad) and I'm sold.
What movie do you love the most?
You know, it changes every time someone asks. I saw the movie "Death on The Nile" four times in theaters last year, and I still stream it at home, so I'd say that it's still a top favorite. As for my all-time favorite, I'd have to say Black Panther (RIP to the legendary Chadwick Boseman). That movie came out during one of the lower periods of my career. It really empowered me to stop shrinking in environments where I didn't fit and build my own table/tribe of like-minded individuals who celebrated the authentic version of me. The year that it came out was my breakthrough year. I got married to the love of my life, decided to stop playing small, and ditched the confining corporate world to quit settling and start focusing on my dreams full-time. Fast forward to today, I don't regret that decision one bit. It paid off big time.
Who came first? The Pigeon or the egg?
I'm gonna go with the egg.
Do you agree with the Pigeon?
