1. Cru Cru Gemïny, super nice to have the chance to chat with you! What first got you into music?
Yeah, i really appreciate y’all inviting me on to the platform it’s a pleasure, truly. It was really a big mix of things. I always share that pretty much the second I hopped out the womb my great grandmother gifted me a blue toy piano. Also at the same time Michael Jackson was still alive and well performing at his peak, Hayley Williams existed and by the time i turned 7 they would already have released All We Know Is Falling and Riot. Also 106 & Park was still airing and i’d say their new years show played a huge part in my “initiation” into music. I vividly remember sitting in my Nani’s rec room watching all these awe inspiring music videos with my cousins as it all led up to this big ball dropping (which i still haven’t seen live, i gotta do that soon) and it being this huge family event. So i’d say that and the BET awards were two big family gatherings that really brought me into that world, and made me want to explore every caveat of it.
2. What do you think your role is in this world?
Honestly, I just don’t think I’m that important to have been given some extra purpose on this Earth. Obviously, with the mental health advocacy I hope to be able to reach as many people as possible and show them that there’s always a light at the end if the tunnel, and to hold on until they can get there, and i genuinely hope anyone listening to my music understands they can reach out if they need it and that there are not only plenty of services out there if they are comfortable and deem it necessary, but also there’s always someone in your corner rooting for you. I grew up under the notion that everyone has someone who cares about them, someone who holds them dear, and that makes them worth caring about. So I do feel that’s an important part of what I do in my day to day. But I feel like that’s just a personal pursuit, like if i chose to stop today I don’t think any higher power, regardless of who or what you believe in, would look at me any different for it. I find fulfillment building new connections with new people, listening to incredible stories, i remember walking to a basketball game with this homeless lady in my younger years and her telling me the story of how she got where she was losing her family, her children etc. and just warning me to take hold of my opportunities. It’s being entrusted with those stories, being given the opportunity to listen, that makes life worth for it me.
3. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Well if we’re talking relevant artists right now i’d say Dua Lipa, it just makes sense, we have very similar styles and i could see that being a very smooth set transition. However, if we’re talking anyone dead or alive i’d probably shoot for the rolling stones, i obviously didn’t over align myself with rock and roll in my current catalogue but boy would it be fun just ripping riffs with all that grit, and their crowds always looked electric just being provided the opportunity to match that energy, is a dream.
4. What’s your favorite 60’s album?
The 60’s, that’s a hard one. There’s a lot going on in the 60’s The Beetles and Bob Dylan were taking over the world. Jimi Hendrix was reinventing the world of electric guitar there’s just a lot of cool stuff going on but i’d probably say led zepplin’s self titled album, dazed and confused always gives me that stranded in the desert/ lone ranger in the night kind of vibe and it sets the mood for some really fun times.
5. What’s your fav food?
Oof, man i do love food. And it’s funny cuz anyone whose seen me on the gram probably thinks it’s some extravagant dish from Atlantis or something. But it’s just chicken parmesan.
6. When did you fall in love with pop music?
That’s hard because has always been a huge musical inspiration, like i said earlier, but i think a heavy mix of rock and R&B ran my life for a good minute. I don’t think it was until middle school streaming Friends with Benefits (back when megashare was elite) and i heard Runaway Baby as the opening theme is when i really started to dive into the pop catalogue.
7. Your latest song is “Hesitation”. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?
Honestly, i don’t think there was time for anything wonky to happen. First it was summer in Cola, and i don’t know if you’ve ever been to Columbia, SC in the summer. But even the crickets go there separate ways here. So there was absolutely nothing going on, and the entirety of the song took 4 days at most to get together. I literally wrote the lyrics while door-dashing and just jamming in the car. It was a very fluent experience. The story behind the music is definitely an interesting one and can be found at: https://wh…hesitation . But at the time of recording things were exceptionally calm.
8. What is your creative process like?
This is one i get a lot and i feel bad, because I feel like the answer doesn’t give y’all enough perspective but genuinely, my creative process is it’s own entity. That jon has a life of their own. Just yesterday i had one of those total recall dreams and I woke up like, “damn that’s a dope memory to write about.” And then i got started on a new idea. I’d say that something pretty standard i’ll do is whenever i’m stuck on lyrics or i feel a section of the track isn’t up to snuff, i’ll improvise around the instrumental on the piano to just vibe out some new ideas. Besides that i think the only thing that’s feeding my creativity is living life so i just keep prioritizing my interactions and finding new experiences and the rest comes. I think i’m going to start recording the process for everyone to see just to make it a little more transparent for everyone.
9. What’s your fav character?
Cruella da Vil, easy. My original icon was a caricature is of me in a cruella fit still my tiktok profile pic. I don’t know, something about that puppy hater, just resonates. I love dog’s, don’t get me wrong, i have my own little rascal at home. But she’s just cool to me. Especially with how Dodie Smith originally wrote her: A fashion-centric legend always pushing it to the edge and easily the top 5 villains of all time. Like imagine getting expelled for drinking ink, unhinged behavior. I’m not that balls to the wall but She gets things done and i respect that especially coming from a woman. Most all my biggest role models are woman, have always been a mama’s boy. So it really just makes sense, that little me chose her as the goat, and i co-sign his decision whole heartedly.
10. Do You agree with the Pigeon?
Y’all are about 4/4 on reviews i’ve read so far so yea i trust ya.
"Hesitation" is based on a skeletal minimalist skin-and-bone beat that is truly infectious, as infectious as the rhythms and beats of an iconic and nostalgic boy band. On the other hand it is absolutely impossible not to feel infected by the super mega hyper catchy and danceable indie alternative harmonioeqw vocal performances that are simply charismatic!
The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify.
