ARTIST INTERVIEW: ERICK DURAN MANARD

Erick Duran Manard - A Road Without Any More Detours

(•)> Cru cru Erick Duran Manard, what first got you into music?

My dad was a professional drummer for several bands and a recording artist. So, my exposure to music was early and often in my formative years. Fast forward some years, I’m 12-14 yrs old, and I hear the first Black Sabbath album, along with Grand Funk’s E Pluribus Funk, and I was hooked on the bass and guitar-driven, blues-based rock. I picked up bass guitar, and I thought, “I can do this, it’s only four strings.”

(•)> Can I find your dad on Rate Your Music?

No, my dad wouldn't be found.

(•)> I never checked out Grand Funk's E Pluribus Funk!!! Are they any good?

Yes, Grand Funk is a classic rock band which helped influence my musical journey.

(•)> Who's your favorite bassist of all time?

My favorite bass player is Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath.

(•)> Was it easy to learn how to play bass or was it hard despite the instrument only having 4 strings?

Learning to play bass was fairly natural and instinctual for me. Despite having four strings, I play bass much like a guitar. I add melody, rhythm, and color to the sound.

(•)> What record should I check out from Grand Funk? I'm tempted to give a spin on their self - titled from 69? What do you think?

You should check out the "Red Album" by Grand Funk.

(•)> What's your favorite album by Black Sabbath and how would you rank their discography from your favorite to your least favorite?

My favorite album by Black Sabbath is probably "Heaven and Hell." They have too many albums to list, but to boil it down, to name a few, in order from favorite to least: Heaven and Hell, Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, Mob Rules, 13.

(•)> That's awesome! And who's your favorite on the guitar?

Jeff Beck is my favorite guitarist. I saw him in concert 2019. in Tulsa.
