ARTIST INTERVIEW: CALY BEVIER

Cru cru, what first got you into music?

Ever since I can remember I was singing. My mom was a huge part of me finding my own voice as she was always making up songs and dancing around the house. So it came naturally for me to use my voice. We would jam in the car to Jewel, Tori Amos, The Chicks, and Green Day to name a few of the artists I grew up listening to. I never really thought of “being in the music industry” until I was about 16. I went through a life changing sickness, ovarian cancer, and it helped me to realize my goals and what I want to accomplish in life.

What would you do if you had a time machine?

I would go back to Woodstock ’69. To be able to feel the energy and listen to the organic music being played while laying on the lush grass would be EVERYTHING to me. Maybe take part in a little mushrooms, dance around with hippies and free loving humans!

What’s your favorite album of all time?

After Laughter by Paramore. I love the mix of the 80s dance vibes intertwined with the funky drum patterns and guitars. Also, the way that they were able to stick true to the growth and changes that Paramore has gone through, it felt like they weren’t worried about taking risks with AL.

Will you tell us something embarrassing about you?

Not sure if this is embarrassing but I am addicted to reality TV. I have kept up with every 90 Day Fiancé spin off that has been created.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

The fact that I am an artist, there are ALWAYS ways be growing. I find inspiration through everything from a crack in the sidewalk to a passing conversation I overheard. I am always ebbing and flowing, because I am human at the end of the day. And there is so much beauty in that alone. I cannot escape the pull of wanting to write a song about everything that I go through. So I develop my skills through writing songs both for myself and other artists, singing to the trees and animals I pass on my walks, and hanging with other creatives and learning from them, to just name a few things. I think that time being creative is never wasted, even if no one sees your creation.

Are you a music fan?

I LOVE music. If I wasn’t a music fan I would not be where I am today.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I do! I love being out in nature. Stuff like going on hikes and visiting the ocean are my favorites. I also love to make visual art when I don’y want to write but still want to be creative. Really simple things like painting and coloring, I can get lost in that for a whole day! And studying up on different cultures and traditional practices really interests me, especially when it comes to metaphysical topics!

What movie do you love the most?

My favorite movie of all time is the Nightmare Before Christmas. I grew up not being able to watch the movie due to religious ideas, but once I was able to make my own choices I watched the iconic film and fell in love!

Who came first? The Pigeon or the egg?

I think the egg, then the pigeon… Pigeon needed time to grow

Do you agree with the Pigeon?

If the Pigeon likes my songs, well of course I agree ha!

The Pigeon added the new single to his Weekly Gems playlist on Spotify. You can check out the released music below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow along so you can stay on top of future releases!
