Interview
1. Hey Ari Joshua from Ari Joshua's Raar Trio, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. First and foremost what got you all into music?
It’s always been a thing for me since I was a toddler. I loved records and sounds. It became a therapeutic thing as I grew up though. It was an outlet and an escape.
2. What’s your favorite pyschedelic artist?
Jimi Hendrix.
3. Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it?
I played with my high school band at this coffee shop. I have a cassette tape of it somewhere. People were dancing and just really moved by the shows. There was this feeling that this band and this music could go anywhere. I just remember vibrating like with warmth and light.
4. Was "Kambo Wambo" really influenced by frogs?
Yes absolutely, 100% frog influenced.
5. Are you familiar with ASMR?
Yes I love that stuff! The music makes me feel amazing in the way the ASMR community seems to appreciate sounds.
6. What are your favorite instants or your favorite part on "Kambo Wambo"?
I love when the guitars come in layered with the melody. It happens a few times in the track.
7. When are we gonna get the 10h version of "Kambo Wambo"?
If you want to hire us for a 10 hour version, I may be able to arrange that. Would that be a record? I would love to be in the Guiness Book for something.
8. Do you think that your music has its roots in Africa?
I know it does. I was born in Africa. The contenant is a part of me, the people, the stories, the smells, the foods, the spirits. 1000%. Also this song in particular has that afrobeat feel.
9. In a scale of 1 to 10 how funky and/ or groovy do you think you are?
9.314 basically 9 point ‘pie’.
10. Do you agree with the Pigeon?
Yes Pigeon is my friend and we agree.
Review
Ideal for studying or simply tapping along to the beat, the extended version of "Kambo Wambo" is born out of strings that demonstrate a dark atmosphere, but are then immediately brightened up by the synergy between drums and riffs that are much funkier and groovy! Improvisation reigns supreme in this instrumental jam that takes us through different psychedelic worlds with only simple and effective melodies. In these worlds, African roots reign, the riffs are soulful, and last but not least, color reigns in the melody. Colorful melodies that only need undulating guitar lines that extend to infinity and beyond with extremely memorable riffs that remind me of the long and experimental audacity typical of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, especially when the six strings gain strength and become louder. This psychedelic world turns upside down after its first five minutes - the euphoric energy is exactly the same, but the notes that stuck in my head have disappeared and been replaced by a more relaxed and laid-back approach. Meanwhile, back comes the noisy psychedelia that so captivated me at first - OMG! This riff is so catchy that I already feel like it's going to stay in my head for hours, if not days. Needless to say, the fusion of these instruments is the most natural and organic I've ever had the pleasure of listening to here on the site, as the chemistry between the different musicians is truly amazing.
